S.R. 108 EIS and Three-Lane Widening, 2006-2010
Davis and Weber Counties, UDOT Region 1
Project Overview
Darla Christiansen led the public involvement for this corridor that links five cities, two counties and stretches approximately nine miles, and ultimately could impact 300 properties. Central to this project during the EIS, Darla facilitated a citizens’ working group. The project was characterized by pockets of contentious stakeholders and the need to work directly with property owners. Extensive outreach was needed to public officials, and Darla was an integral part of making continual updates to make sure all levels (from staff engineers to mayors to congressional delegates) were kept informed and involved during the process. Her team’s work also included organizing public meetings and hearings, coordinating with neighborhood groups, responding to stakeholders concerns, creating project newsletters, and maintaining a project web site. Because funding was not immediately available to build the selected alternative, a three-lane widening project was constructed to provide congestion relief. Darla’s work with stakeholders continued through construction.
