Overview
DEC was selected to provide on-call services for the remediation design of Boca Dam, a key structure in the Truckee River System, located in Nevada County, California. The dam is undergoing seismic hazard retrofitting, PMF improvements, and security upgrades, with the Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) leading the design efforts. DEC has actively participated in the consultant review board, value engineering, and general project reviews as the design has progressed.
Collaborative Design and Technical Review
Shane K. Dyer, from DEC, has met with USBR design engineers at the USBR Technical Service Center (TSC) in Colorado to review and collaborate on the project’s critical components. DEC also continues to consult on the Washoe County Water Conservation District’s (WCWCD) ongoing involvement, particularly with the recently proposed hydroelectric project at the dam, which has entered the permitting phase with FERC. In addition to technical reviews, DEC has supported environmental permitting and assisted with construction phasing and scheduling.
Ongoing Support and Upgrades
J-U-B serves as the District Engineer for the Washoe County Water Conservation District on Boca Dam. The dam has recently undergone significant upgrades, including spillway seismic retrofits, a stability buttress, and other security improvements. J-U-B has collaborated closely with USBR throughout the project, including participation in design reviews and value engineering efforts. The firm continues to serve as the District Engineer for WCWCD and Boca Dam.
