Davis and Weber Counties Canal Company Project
Kaysville, UT

Project Overview

Since 1999, J-U-B has worked closely with the Davis and Weber Counties Canal Company (DWCCC) to modernize and improve their canal infrastructure. From early planning to construction management, our partnership has delivered lasting upgrades to the canal system while continuously securing the funding needed to move projects forward. Over 13 years, J-U-B helped DWCCC obtain $14.5 million in grant funding to support 15 major projects totaling $32.9 million in improvements.

Challenges

DWCCC faced aging infrastructure, open canals with high water loss, and the need to serve a growing number of secondary and agricultural users. Addressing these challenges required a long-term plan, phased implementation, and reliable funding sources.

How We Addressed the Issues

J-U-B developed a comprehensive canal master plan that identified system deficiencies, prioritized projects, and estimated future costs. This plan served as a foundation for successful grant applications and phased construction. Each year, we worked side by side with DWCCC to secure funding for high-priority projects while planning future improvements.

Results

Projects completed or currently underway include piping and lining sections of the 8-mile main canal, installing large box culverts to increase capacity, reconstructing the Weber River headworks and forebay, installing meters on hundreds of secondary and irrigation users, and incorporating solar and hydropower solutions to improve sustainability and lower operational costs.

Benefits

These improvements have significantly increased system efficiency, reduced water loss, promoted better user accountability, and introduced clean energy to support daily operations. The system is now more resilient and better positioned to serve both current and future needs.

Uniqueness

The DWCCC program stands out for its consistency and vision. Few water infrastructure programs maintain this level of long-term momentum, funding success, and phased implementation. The commitment of DWCCC and the strategic approach by J-U-B showcase the power of planning, persistence, and partnership.
