Hobble Creek Debris Basin
Orem, UT

Overview

J-U-B acquired federal funding on behalf of Utah County to improve the Hobble Creek Dam infrastructure to better accommodate operation and maintenance procedures. These improvements include an engineered, fill-supported maintenance ramp, video monitoring and floodlights, a water level measuring device, a box culvert with an upstream facing slanted trash rack, electric actuators for easier gate operation, and a floating debris boom barrier.

Addressing Operational Challenges

For years, Utah County has had difficulty performing operation and maintenance activities on the Hobble Creek Debris Basin, due to the sheer volume of runoff, debris, and sediment being conveyed into the basin. J-U-B acquired federal funding on behalf of Utah County to improve the infrastructure to better accommodate operation and maintenance procedures. These improvements include an engineered, fill-supported maintenance ramp, video monitoring and floodlights, a water level measuring device, a box culvert with an upstream facing slanted trash rack, electric actuators for easier gate operation, and a floating debris boom barrier.

Improving Maintenance and Safety

The planned construction activities will keep outlets from being clogged, provide safe and convenient maintenance, and allow for remote monitoring of the basin. All of these features will in turn prevent the embankment from overtopping.
