Larimer and Weld Irrigation Co. Design Services – Fort Collins CO
Fort Collins, CO

Overview:

The Larimer and Weld Irrigation Company (LWIC) design services project included providing emergency response, permitting, and design of irrigation infrastructure for an irrigation company that has serviced more than 61,000 acres or agricultural land since 1864. J-U-B staff provides design for large and small infrastructure ranging from diversion structures located in the river to headgates/check structures located on laterals.

Project Components:

Project components include replacement of the main headgate structure (constructed in 1950) located on the Cache la Poudre River, a grade control structure located downstream of the headgate, and several headgates/grade control structures located on downstream laterals. The rebuilding effort of the headgate and forebay included the placement of over 650 cubic yards of structural concrete, a new concrete block control building, new hydraulically operated vertical roller gates including gate automation, a new precast concrete bridge, a cast-in-place access ramp, new steel trash rack sections and a stainless sluice gate.

This project also included the engineering, design, and construction management services for the rebuilding of the LWIC grade control structure downstream of the main diversion. The previous grade control structure located downstream of the diversion dam was damaged during a flood event in 2013 and needed replacement to ensure that potential head cuts would not threaten the structure.

Additional services include design of structures including diversion dams, siphons, checks, headgates, flumes and anything else required to efficiently move water through the system.

 Design Team:

J-U-B staff collaborated with PEN Engineering to ensure that structures were structurally sound, and to bring this project to a successful conclusion.
