In 2021, construction of the Ogden/Weber State University Bus Rapid Transit project began following years of evaluating efficient and cost-effective transit solutions, including light-rail, trolley car and traditional bus lines. Bus rapid transit (BRT) was selected as the optimal choice because it offered the speed and efficiency of light-rail with the lower-cost construction of an integrated bus system.
The Langdon Group (TLG) was selected to lead the public involvement effort during construction of the OGX system. TLG designed and implemented a two-pronged approach to public outreach during construction; grass-roots outreach and digital communication. TLG’s grass-roots outreach plan included door-to-doors, frequent business coordination, weekly email updates, facilitation of monthly meetings, and 24-7 availability to answer and respond to stakeholder phone calls and emails.
TLG is also implemented a digital outreach campaign to inform stakeholders about construction and promote BRT ridership. The digital outreach campaign included managing a project Facebook page, construction update videos, and business spotlight videos.
In addition to the traditional means of informing the public, TLG partnered with Weber State University to involve communication students in developing and executing a campus specific outreach plan to announce the upcoming OGX line and increase area ridership.
