State Highway 21 South Fork of the Payette River Bridge – ITD

The original late 1800’s timber truss bridge at this location was replaced by a new timber truss bridge in 1925. This bridge used a timber crib center pier and two concrete piers, both still in use today, to support the deck. The new weathering steel girder bridge will feature 11-foot travel lanes and seven-foot shoulders, with red-toned, three-tube galvanized steel railings.

The Langdon Group is leading the public involvement on the replacement of this bridge in Lowman, Idaho on a scenic byway. Critical bull trout habitat, summer recreation travel and close coordination with this mountain community are among the issues TLG is working through with key stakeholders from design through construction. TLG developed a project webpage and presented twice to the local community at their annual spring meeting. TLG’s landscape architecture team created digital renderings of the future bridge to help the public see how the new design fits within the context of the natural environment.
