Three Decades of Partnership in Wastewater Engineering
J-U-B has been providing wastewater engineering for the City of Walla Walla for the past three decades. Our relationship started in the late 1990s with an amendment to the wastewater treatment plant Facility Plan, which outlined three phases of improvements to meet new permit requirements. We subsequently helped with design and construction management services for all three phases, which upgraded the facility to meet Class A reclaimed water standards—the first in eastern Washington. Following major upgrades through 2006, J-U-B has helped the City with smaller projects to optimize operations and maintain an excellent level of service.
Addressing Aging Infrastructure and Reducing I/I
Because Walla Walla was founded in 1854, portions of the sanitary sewer collection system had exceeded their useful life, leading to excessive infiltration and inflow (I/I). J-U-B worked with the City to develop a collection system rehabilitation plan that targeted the highest priority projects from 2015 to 2025, successfully removing a significant amount of I/I and recapturing plant capacity.
Planning for the Future with a New Facility Plan
In 2024, the City selected J-U-B to prepare an update to the Facility Plan to assess the condition and capacity of the entire WWTP and develop a phased schedule of upgrades over the next twenty years. J-U-B has already helped the City secure $7 million in funding for the first phase of improvements to their anaerobic digesters and solids handling components.
