Water Reclamation Facility Tertiary Improvements – Post Falls ID
Coeur d’Alene, ID

Long-Term Planning Amid Rapid Growth

Facing some of the fastest growth and strictest water quality limits in the country, Post Falls has been a great example of planning for the long-term while meeting short-term needs. The City has upgraded their facility as needed to keep up with aggressive community growth (current population 35,000) and phosphorus limits of 0.05 mg/l.

Advanced Treatment Approach

To provide robust treatment at a reasonable cost, the city is using oxidation ditches with full biological nutrient removal followed by tertiary clarification, membrane filtration, and UV disinfection.

Class A Reuse Implementation

Over recent years, J-U-B has helped the City evaluate and begin implementing infrastructure for Class A reuse on the City’s community forest and prairie agricultural properties.

Decades of Partnership and Phased Upgrades

For more than 30 years, the J-U-B team has worked hand-in-hand with the City to solve wastewater treatment issues. Rapid regional growth and strict discharge requirements have required careful system-wide Master Planning and numerous phased upgrades to the Post Falls Water Reclamation Facility.

Strategic Facilities Planning and Fair Cost Allocation

A key element of the City’s planning has been development of their 2013 and 2023 Facilities Plan and Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), differentiating cost due to growth, regulatory requirements, and replacement—allowing the city to fairly assess fees to all users.
