TLG worked with the Utah Division of Water Resources to implement the Utah Watershed Councils Act. This Act allowed for the creation of 12 local watershed councils, which are intended to be grassroots efforts to encourage and facilitate discussion, communication, and coordination among diverse stakeholders in the implementation of water-related activities.
TLG developed a broad and diverse stakeholder group, consisting of state and federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, water conservation districts, municipalities, tribes, and other water users, to participate in the first local watershed councils in Utah. TLG identified hundreds of key stakeholders, conducted a situational assessment, facilitated all organizing meetings of local councils, and assisted the newly formed councils to gain momentum as they identified their priorities and goals. TLG also worked closely with the Division to ensure these newly formed watershed councils have adequate resources and direction to create meaningful change in the discussion and implementation of water-related issues within the state.
