The Bureau of Land Management manages and protects wild horses and burros on 26.9 million acres of public lands across 10 Western states as part of its mission to administer public lands for a variety of uses. The Wild Horse and Burro Program’s goal is to manage healthy wild horses and burros on healthy public rangelands.
The Langdon Group provides facilitation services for the National Wild Horse and Burro Program Advisory Board, state and national Motorized Vehicle Hearings and the multi-day BLM State Leads meetings. TLG also supported BLM’s efforts to evaluate and assess the adoption incentive program through a situational assessment among advocacy organizations and facilitated workshops.
The board, representative of various interests, meets twice per year for multiple days, developing recommendations to the BLM regarding the program. The recommendation crafting process and public interest/comment are key component to successful meeting management. Motor Vehicle Hearings occur annually to receive public comment concerning the use of motorized vehicles for the management of on-range horses and burros. State leads meetings bring in all Wild Horse and Burro Program team members from the national office, 10 western states and the Eastern States Region to collaborate on key decisions regarding policy, regulations, budget, communication, staffing and research.
