Willwood Irrigation District
Reno, NV

Overview

J-U-B performed a full dam inspection on this USBR concrete gravity dam and created improvement designs with a capital improvements plan, in coordination with the State of Wyoming, The irrigation District and the USBR. The work including geotechnical investigations, inspection, and engineers preliminary design, and siltation improvement recommendation, aging concrete, apron issues, and other improvements as required per findings during the inspections.

Master Plan

WID desired this study to assess the Willwood Dam structural integrity as well as a potential relocation of the dam itself. The study assesses other critical structures of the system that are in poor condition as well as seeping canal and laterals.

Details

J-U-B is in the process of performing a very thorough structural inventory and assessment of both the dam and other critical chutes and drop structures.  The dam assessment includes physically testing the structural properties of the concrete and dam foundation. J-U-B’s subsidiary company, Gateway Mapping Inc. (GMI), will incorporate inventories, assessments, rehabilitation recommendations and other details into the GIS database for WID.

Solutions

One of the critical structures is in such poor condition that it will be submitted for Level III funding this fall prior to the completion of the full study.  Program and other federal funding sources resulted in a well thought-out and strategic approach to funding needed improvements for the WID system over the next 30 years. The funding plan will incorporate funding strategies involving multiple federal sources coupled with WWDO funding.
